Malawi German Health Programme (MGHP) is working to strengthen health systems in the target districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Mchinji and Ntcheu with a focus on maternal and newborn health. This programme works in 40 health facilities, including the 3 district hospitals of Dedza, Mchinji and Ntcheu supporting selected health facilities to meet minimum quality of care criteria. Part of this effort involves promoting data use for decision support by leveraging the power of ICT. MGHP intends to support frontline health workers to easily access data, including HMIS data aggregated in the central repository DHIS2, and use this on a routine basis for decision support at the point of care. To achieve this, GIZ engaged the services of Mr. Alex Gondwe, Managing Director of AEGO Consulting and Solutions, to carry out the assessment.
The assignment involved ICT Infrastructure Assessment, Energy Infrastructure Assessment and Infrastructure Specifications Development. The approach taken followed contextual Inquiry, Staff Interviews, Physical Inspection, Physical Measurement and testing, Energy Audit and Stakeholder analysis.
