SIMPLE WATER HARVESTING

AEGO also engages in Agricultural activities  to ensure food security using low cost approaches. The neighboring gardens were releasing a lot of water into our garden and the neighboring garden down the slope. This made management of crops difficult, especially in the peak of the rainy season.  Instead of looking at it as a problem, we turned it into an opportunity. We used basic water harvesting techniques to grow rice. Basically, simple drains were dug along the farm boundaries to receive water from the neighboring fields and direct it to where it could be managed. The water was allowed to flood into the rice garden with provision to control the flow. A ridge was constructed across the lower section of the rice garden to hold the water from flooding the neighboring garden down the slop. Only after reaching the set level would the water spill over to the next garden. In the end, the neighbors up the slope, had better harvest by releasing the excess water. We used the water to...

MALAWI GERMAN HEALTH PROGRAMME ICT AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE ASSESSMENT - 2019

Malawi German Health Programme (MGHP) is working to strengthen health systems in the target districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Mchinji and Ntcheu with a focus on maternal and newborn health. This programme works in 40 health facilities, including the 3 district hospitals of Dedza, Mchinji and Ntcheu supporting selected health facilities to meet minimum quality of care criteria. Part of this effort involves promoting data use for decision support by leveraging the power of ICT. MGHP intends to support frontline health workers to easily access data, including HMIS data aggregated in the central repository DHIS2, and use this on a routine basis for decision support at the point of care. To achieve this, GIZ engaged the services of Mr. Alex Gondwe, Managing Director of AEGO Consulting and Solutions, to carry out the assessment. The assignment involved ICT Infrastructure Assessment, Energy Infrastructure Assessment and Infrastructure Specifications Development. The approach taken f...

PINGTUNG CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL VISIT - 2012

One of the visits that helped to increase passion for Digital Health. This was a tour of Pingtung Christian Hospital in Taiwan. A lot of lessons were learned through briefing sessions and observations. Some of these lessons are now informing activities of AEGO Consulting and Solutions in Digital Health. In the picture the host was explaining the operation of the Picture Archiving and Communication System ( PACS) and how it is integrated with the Electronic Medical Record System.

Wind Powered Tower

This was an exciting project. The tower in the picture was constructed and erected by a team from Baobab Health Trust where I led the Engineering arm as Engineering manager and then Director of Engineering until June, 2018. It relied solely on wind for power. On top of the tower was a 300W windmill which  was a full 48V battery charger. The power setup was used to drive a 32km wireless connection. The tower was used for over 3 years with stable connection.
